7/26 to 8/13 Assignment Sheets

The kids are anxious to move up so I have decided to call this school year officially over. The public school starts next week so we'll go with that. Makaylee will be officially in 2nd grade. We will probably stick with our summer schedule through September though.

Bible

We have been working on learning the books of the Bible, Philippians 2:14 and Romans 12:20.

We have also been reading from our kids' Bible and a Lego comic-style Bible that we picked up at the library.

Science

Experiments include, but aren't limited to raising tadpoles, how a stomach works, exploring water tension, and making a sundial.

We have been reading a lot of library books and we picked up a couple of science sticker books at Aldi's that the kids are having fun with.

Language Arts

Makaylee has been practicing her spelling words with a dice game and word searches. We are currently working on #s 76-85 of the 1st 100 words. We have been doing a lot of family journals and she has started learning cursive. I also found a parts of speech poem that we are memorizing. She has finished her reader and is now reading books from the library out loud.

Math

We are very game-focused right now. Makaylee is getting very good at simple addition and we are now including a little subtraction.

Social Studies

Makaylee is pretty good with North, South, East, and West now. We are also reviewing the continents.

I didn't know if she would be able to memorize all the lines they gave her, but she aced it! Bible: We know Ps. 52:8 and are working on Pl. 37:4. We have been watching Superbook, Beginners Bible and Bible Agent. Science: We have been continuing to watch our compost and making yogurt and bread while talking about the microbes involved in that. Language Arts: Makaylee has mastered 57 of the 100 most commonly used words in English and she only has 24 pages left in her Abeka reader. We have been doing a lot in her wipe-off book and every now and then she decided to do a journal page. She says she wants to learn cursive next year. Math: The hardest game we are playing is Make 5. This involves finding com...
